Doha: Qatari newspapers addressed several topics in their Tuesday editorials that dominated the local, Arab, and international scenes. At the forefront was the emphasis on Qatar's continued support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), which works to serve Palestinian refugees suffering from tragic conditions in the West Bank, Gaza Strip, and host countries.
According to Qatar News Agency, the newspapers also addressed the joint statement issued yesterday by the foreign ministers of the Arab-Islamic Committee concerned with the Gaza file. The statement strongly condemned Israeli statements suggesting the displacement of Palestinians from territories occupied since 1967, calling such actions unacceptable under any pretext, as well as rejecting and denouncing all Israeli policies and practices aimed at uprooting the Palestinian people from their land and forcing them to abandon their homeland.
On the local front, newspapers praised Qatar's investment in education, noting that the country sent thousands of students to prestigious universities abroad, based on its belief that shaping the future begins in classrooms.
For its part, Al-Raya newspaper said in its editorial that Qatar has always been a major supporter of UNRWA, which works to serve Palestinian refugees suffering from tragic conditions in the West Bank, Gaza Strip, and host countries. UNRWA's assistance is the main support for the Palestinians' resilience in the face of historical circumstances and injustice.
In this regard, the newspaper pointed out that media advisor to UNRWA Adnan Abu Hasna confirmed that Qatar and Egypt are making pioneering efforts to support the agency, as it is the lifeline for millions of Palestinian refugees, especially in Gaza. Qatar has spared no effort in supporting the agency, defending it in international forums and in the face of the systematic incitement campaign against it, aimed at cutting off the lifeline of the brotherly Palestinian people. The Israeli actions are nothing but a blatant attempt to demonize the agency as part of its ongoing aggression against the defenseless Palestinian people, the newspaper added.
Al-Raya concluded by stressing that the ongoing Israeli incitement against UNRWA requires regional and international solidarity. It also called for increased funding for the agency to support Palestinians who have been harmed by the occupation, displaced from their lands, and become victims of deprivation, hunger, and poverty.
In turn, Al-Sharq newspaper highlighted in its editorial the joint statement issued by the foreign ministers of the Arab-Islamic Committee concerned with Gaza yesterday, which came to express the position of the Arab and Islamic nations strongly condemning the statements issued by Israel regarding the displacement of Palestinians from territories occupied since 1967, calling such actions unacceptable under any pretext.
The newspaper also pointed out the joint statement rejected and condemned all Israeli policies and practices aimed at uprooting the Palestinian people from their land and forcing them to abandon their homeland, whether through the escalation and expansion of military operations in the Gaza Strip, its use of siege and starvation as tools of war, the repeated attacks on civilians and infrastructure, or illegal measures in the West Bank, including settlement expansion, land confiscation, home demolitions and settler violence.
Al-Sharq said that the statements issued by the Israeli government and occupation officials regarding the displacement of Palestinians are nothing but an extension of an ongoing approach to violating the rights of the brotherly Palestinian people, through practices that constitute a flagrant violation of international law and a breach of the established principles of the UN Charter and the rules-based international order. The occupation has been accustomed to disregarding international laws and agreements without fear, given the inability of the international community and its institutions to hold the occupation officials accountable for these violations, which may amount to crimes of forced displacement or ethnic cleansing, the newspaper underlined.
Concluding its editorial, Al-Sharq stressed that the top priority is to reach an immediate and permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, lift all Israeli restrictions imposed on the entry of humanitarian aid through all roads and crossings, and end the war. This will pave the way for a serious political process leading to a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue, in accordance with the Arab Peace Initiative and the two-state solution.
