Doha: The Ministry of Interior (MoI) has announced the launch of a training workshop on combating human trafficking.
The event is Organized by the Police Academy’s Officers Institute in collaboration with the Ministry of Interior’s Human Rights Department and the US Department of Homeland Security’s Human Trafficking Center (Regional Training in the Middle East).
The two-day workshop brings together 50 officers from a variety of the MoI departments to discuss an array of topics, including strategies and techniques for combating human trafficking, investigating suspected cases of human trafficking, basics of victim assistance, intelligence resources and capabilities, and the use of digital evidence to support investigations, MoI reported in a statement on Monday.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Director of the Human Rights Department at the Ministry of Interior, Brigadier Abdullah Saqr Al Muhannadi, Director of the Police Officers Institute at the Police Academy, Colonel Naif Mohammed Al Mana’i an
d, Director of the Criminal Investigation Department at the General Directorate of Criminal Investigation, Colonel Nawaf Mohammed Al Otaibi, alongside lecturers from the American side.
To mark this occasion, Brigadier Abdullah Saqr Al Muhannadi said the workshop intends to upgrade the officers’ skills in combating the crimes of human trafficking, pointing out that the State of Qatar has made a great stride in this field through joining and ratifying the Protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons which came in complementary to the Convention against Transnational Organized Crime.
Al Muhannadi highlighted that the State of Qatar has issued the Law No. 15 of 2011 Combating Trafficking in Human Beings, indicating that the MoI, represented by the Human Rights Department always seeks to propagate the culture of handling the issues of trafficking in persons and preparing the first line to combat this crime. He added that the workshop primarily aims to reinforce cooperation between all relevant
departments concerned with combating the crime.
For his part, Colonel Naif Mohammed Al Mana’i praised the efforts of the US Department of Homeland Security’s Human Trafficking Center in presenting this critical workshop in this field, along with its contribution to promoting the capabilities of the participants, lauding this ironclad partnership with the US side which has certainly culminated in organizing numerous sessions and workshops with the aim of capitalizing on the global experiences in the field of combating human trafficking. He wished success for the participants to benefit from the serious discussions and topics laid out by the workshop.
Additionally, Colonel Nawaf Mohammed Al Otaibi underscored the significance of the workshop in upgrading the capabilities of the participants and imbuing them with the essential skills to handle the crimes of human tracking and accomplish the legal requirements to prevent these crimes.
