Landslide Death Toll in Indonesia Rises to 29

Tunis: The death toll from the landslide that struck West Bandung Regency in West Java, Indonesia, has risen to 29.

According to Qatar News Agency, local authorities reported Monday that search and rescue teams have so far handed over the bodies of 29 people to the disaster victim identification team, noting that approximately 61 people remain trapped under the rubble.

They indicated that search and evacuation operations are continuing, with joint teams supported by nine pieces of heavy equipment deployed to several affected areas. Efforts are also being bolstered by air support to reach areas that are difficult to access by land due to the limited road access to the landslide site.

Authorities explained that the terrain presents a significant challenge to relief operations, as only small and medium-sized heavy equipment can be used due to the narrow roads. They emphasized that these limitations are hindering the rapid removal of debris and the rescue of victims trapped beneath it.

Seven people were killed and 82 others were missing on Saturday after a landslide struck West Java province in Indonesia, following heavy rains.
