Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi said Wednesday the situation at Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia nuclear power station has not improved, warning of the outcomes of the escalation of fighting near the power plant.
Grossi, who is visiting for the second time the station located within the areas controlled by Russia during its ongoing military operations in Ukrainian territory, was briefed on the operation of Europe’s largest nuclear power plant, calling on Kyiv and Moscow to conclude a safety agreement to protect the facility.
He also stressed the need to reduce the risk of major accidents at the site, indicating that further escalation would make the situation near the station even worse due to the sensitivity of the environmental situation there. (QNA)
