Bathily discusses with members of the municipal council of Misurata solutions to the political crisis in the country.

The UN Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Libya, Abdoulaye Bathily, met yesterday in Misurata with members of the Municipal Council, academics, and members of the House of Representatives (HoR) to discuss the political situation in the country.

“Today I met with municipal council members, university academics, and members of the HoR in Misrata to listen to their views on solving the political crisis.” Bathily said in a tweet.

Bathily stressed that everyone called for a political process led and owned by the Libyans and for more decentralization.

They also expressed concern about the unfair allocation of national resources to regions and governorates and the impact of foreign interference in internal Libyan affairs.

Bathily stressed that the Libyans have the capacity and natural resources to overcome the crisis, referring to Libya’s position as an economic power and a leading regional actor.

“All Libyans are entitled to peace, prosperity, and stability, which can happen only through inclusive and transparent elections, reiterating the UN’s full support for finding a Libyan-led solution to the crisis.” Bathily added.

He reiterated the utmost importance of the process of national reconciliation, stressing that Libyan citizens are brothers and sisters from the same motherland.
