ALECSO Director-General Announces Plan to Organize Arab Forum on Water Scarcity

Director-General of the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar said that the organization plans to organize an Arab forum on ‘water scarcity and control in semi-arid regions’ at the end of this year, calling for participation in this specialized forum to find practical solutions to issues related to water shortage and scarcity.

During the annual ceremony of the Arab Scientific Community Organization to announce the winner of the organization’s encouragement award for 2022, he added that the organization’s future action plan 2023-2028, which ALECSO launched in implementing its first tranche at the beginning of this year 2023, will take care of strengthening the role of scientific research and technological development in Arab societies, developing and supporting science policies, scientific research and innovation, deepening the role of scientific and technological ethics, benefiting from applications of artificial intelligence technology in the field of agriculture and environmental protection, using big data analyzes in the field of environmental protection and achieving sustainable development goals, publishing and exchanging ground observation data in Arab countries, interacting with research results and influencing environmental decision-making, and developing scientific publications in high-quality specialized journals.

He highlighted the role of the Tunis-based ALECSO, which operates under the umbrella of the Arab League, in promoting Arab, regional and international cooperation in the fields of education, culture, science, scientific research and joint Arab action and supporting it to contribute to achieving comprehensive development and facilitating communication between regional and international partners.

For her part, President of the Doha-based Arab Scientific Community Organization Dr. Moza bint Mohammed Al Rabban explained that the general objective of the award, which was organized in collaboration with the ALECSO, is to encourage young scientists in Arab research institutions to direct their research and studies towards all that serves the localization of science and building their own scientific traditions whether in basic sciences or applied sciences, in addition encouraging applied research directed towards finding appropriate scientific solutions to the problems afflicting the Arab region, linking science and its results with reality, and encouraging building scientific communication between scientists and society.
