Doha: Widam Food, the principal operator of Al Wakrah Central Abattoir and private abattoirs in Qatar, has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Qatar Livestock Society, Anaam. This strategic agreement is set to enhance the marketing of domestic livestock production through various platforms across the country.
According to Qatar News Agency, the MOU is designed to promote livestock products from Qatari breeders, showcasing them at Widam's facilities including Al Wakrah Central Abattoir, Umm Salal Central Market, Al Shahaniya Central Abattoir, and the Abu Nakhla sales area. These products will also be accessible via Widam's online application throughout the year, offering a wider reach to consumers.
The agreement outlines Anaam's role in coordinating with breeders to ensure the import of livestock products that meet specific consumer demands in terms of specifications and weights. Additionally, the MOU includes provisions for purchasing breeding ewes from productive breeds, facilitating their sale to breeders to enhance the development and improvement of Qatar's flock genetics.
Domestic production initiatives are crucial for meeting the demand for red meat, supported by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MOCI) in collaboration with the Ministry of Municipality. For 16 years, these initiatives have significantly improved production efficiency, contributing to advancements in Qatar's food security.
Anaam's mission is to bolster the livestock sector and support breeders in Qatar. By doing so, it aims to improve local livestock production efficiency and act as a vital link between breeders and government bodies.
