Doha: UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemned on Tuesday the Israeli attack on Qatar, stressing that it is a flagrant violation of Qatar's sovereignty and territorial integrity. In a statement, Guterres said that Qatar has been playing a very positive role to achieve a ceasefire and release of all hostages held by the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), calling on all parties to work towards achieving a permanent ceasefire, not destroying it.
According to Qatar News Agency, the statement from Guterres emphasized the need for immediate de-escalation and urged all involved parties to respect international law and the principles of sovereignty. The Secretary-General highlighted Qatar's diplomatic efforts in mediating peace and reducing tensions in the region.
Guterres' statement further called for constructive dialogue and cooperation among nations to resolve conflicts and humanitarian issues. The UN Secretary-General expressed his concern over the potential ramifications of continued aggression and urged for a swift return to peaceful negotiations.
