Doha: UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres affirmed the UN's continued support for Iraq despite the end of the mandate of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI). Guterres made the remarks during the official ceremony marking the end of UNAMI's mandate, attended by Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein and UNAMI Head Mohammed Al Hassan.
According to Qatar News Agency, the UN Secretary-General expressed his pride in the ongoing cooperation with Iraq, stressing that the organization will continue supporting the country through new frameworks suited to the next phase, aimed at promoting sustainable development and international partnership.
The Iraqi Foreign Minister stated that the end of the mission's mandate reflects the progress and stability achieved, highlighting Iraq's ability to manage its own affairs while strengthening its sovereignty and constitutional institutions.
