Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fouad Hussein, met with Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis on the sidelines of His Excellency’s participation in the high-level week of meetings of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement, “During the meeting, the development of bilateral relations and ways of joint cooperation between the two friendly countries in the economic, trade and investment fields were discussed.”
The Minister stressed “the importance of holding a meeting of the joint Iraqi-Greek committee as soon as possible, pointing to the importance of the two countries’ cooperation in the field of combating hate speech and Islamophobia, proposing to hold a forum that brings together the countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the countries of the European Union to discuss ways to reduce the phenomenon of contempt of religions.”
For his part, the Greek Foreign Minister affirmed his country’s readiness to cooperate with Iraq, indicating his desire to visit the capital, Baghdad, in the coming period, at the head of a delegation of senior Greek businessmen in light of the security stability witnessed by Iraq, for the purpose of examining investment opportunities and the possibility of economic cooperation between the two countries.”/ End
