Syrian Politicians Denounce Israeli Aggression Against Qatar as Violation of International Law

Damascus: Syrian politicians and analysts stressed that the Israeli aggression against Qatar represents a dangerous development and a blatant violation of international law, as it reflects a direct targeting of Qatar’s standing and its diplomatic and regional role, and an attempt to thwart calm efforts, with potential repercussions for security and peace in the region.

According to Qatar News Agency, they pointed out that targeting Qatar not only represents an attack on a fraternal country, but also poses a direct threat to security and peace in the region and the world. They called for a unified Arab and international stance to deter the occupation’s practices, which portend further tensions.

In this context, Manager at Jusoor Center for Studies Professor Waiel Olwan said that targeting Qatar comes within the context of what he described as the Israeli government’s obstruction of initiatives aimed at achieving security and peace. He emphasized that Qatar has been and continues to be a key mediator in numerous regional and international issues, and that the aggression constitutes a clear message that the occupying government is not serious about any peace process and that it represents a direct threat to regional and international security.

For his part, Firas Faham, a researcher in political and security affairs, indicated that the Israeli aggression reflects an effort to impose a new reality in the region, adding that the occupation sought through this operation to emphasize the absence of red lines.

He believed that recent developments would prompt countries in the region to reevaluate their security and political calculations, noting that Damascus views the aggression on Qatar as targeting a key political and economic partner, as well as an Arab and Islamic symbol represented by Doha.

In turn, former spokesman for the Syrian Islamic Council Moti’ Al Batin stressed that the Israeli aggression reflects what he described as the arrogance of the occupation and its efforts to expand the scope of its attacks. He noted that the aggression targeted a negotiating delegation despite the presence of mediation, which he considered a clear violation of all international norms and standards.

He pointed out that the bombing inside an Arab country that is a member of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) constitutes a flagrant violation of international law, adding that targeting Qatar, known for its role in mediation and containing crises, would contribute to escalating instability in the region.

Political and economic researcher Mohammed Al Masry also considered that the Israeli aggression is not limited to its military dimension alone, but extends to include political and legal dimensions. He said that the operation can be read within the framework of Israel’s deterrence policy and sends messages that resistance leaders are not safe even outside the Palestinian territories.

He believed that carrying out the operation in Doha, which hosted numerous mediations and negotiations, suggests that the Israeli entity seeks to undermine diplomatic efforts or redraw its terms to serve its own interests. He stressed that the attack constitutes a clear violation of the principle of sovereignty enshrined in the UN Charter, and may lead to the failure of the paths of calm and prisoner exchange, and open the door to a regional escalation whose consequences are difficult to control, and places security in the Middle East before a difficult test, the results of which no one can predict.
