In the colours of Khalid Bin Rashid Al Mohannadi, HONEY CAKE (IRE) followed up her win last time out at ParisLongchamp in June with an impressive victory in the Prix Kaldoun, a Class 1 conditions race for three-year-olds, at Lion d’Angers, France on Thursday, 29 July. In the hands of jockey Julien Guillochon, the bay filly won by four lengths in front of RACING GLORY (Zebedee).
Starting as a favourite, HONEY CAKE, who has previously shown a tendency to run somewhat keen in her races, was allowed to go immediately up to the lead in this 1,400-metre contest. Controlling the race throughout, Henri Alex Pantall’s trainee never looked in danger up the straight and powered up the rail to hit the line strongly. Front-running tactics have so far been very successful for this filly, who had failed to settle in behind on her two attempts at a mile. This was her third career win and now with a Class 1 victory under her belt, she will now be looking towards Stakes level and the all-important black-type.
HONEY CAKE is by leading French sire SIYOUNI and she comes from the family of DOHA DREAM, the Prix Chaudenay (Gr2) winner for Al Shaqab Racing. She was bought at the Arqana Breeze up as a 2-year-old.
