Doha: South Africa's Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development, Mmamoloko Kubayi, emphasized Qatar's significant role in combating corruption during her remarks to the Qatar News Agency on the sidelines of the 11th session of the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption (COSP11). Kubayi highlighted Qatar's efforts through hosting COSP11 and its use of technology to combat crime and corruption, praising the long-standing cooperation and excellent bilateral relations between Qatar and South Africa.
According to Qatar News Agency, Her Excellency expressed her gratitude for Qatar's warm welcome and excellent organization of the event, noting that the high level of hospitality and organization reflects Qatar's commitment to promoting integrity and transparency at the international level. She also acknowledged Qatar's leading role in the global fight against corruption.
Kubayi highlighted the in-depth discussions and positive outcomes of COSP11, particularly the proposals aimed at reviewing conventions and strengthening state capacities to tackle corruption worldwide. She underscored the importance of launching new tools to assist countries, especially those in conflict zones, in combating corruption.
She also mentioned that addressing illicit financial flows is crucial from an African perspective, aligning with the goals of Agenda 2063 and supporting development and stability efforts.
Her Excellency expressed appreciation for Qatar's support during South Africa's presidency of the G20, stating that it significantly contributed to the success of their presidency. She affirmed that the relationship between South Africa and Qatar will continue to be strong on both bilateral and international fronts.
