Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Shakhwan Abdullah, stressed the great role of Iraqi journalists and their sacrifices.
Today, Wednesday, in a statement on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day, Abdullah blessed the press family in Iraq, appreciating the great services it provided and prominent names in the immortal record of the martyrs of the word who lost their lives in the liberation battles against the terrorist ISIS, stressing the great role of Iraqi journalists and their sacrifices in the way for the country’s progress, stability and prosperity.
The deputy speaker of parliament, according to a statement by his media office, praised the efforts of journalists in keeping abreast of events and supporting humanitarian issues in order to achieve justice, equality and fight corruption, adding, “A suitable environment and a free and independent atmosphere must be ensured for the press based on democracy and freedom within the framework of national responsibility, and the need to activate the protection law of Journalists”, pointing to the spread of audio-visual media and the emergence of digital technologies, which increases the work space in a professional manner, and government agencies must enable journalists to perform their daily tasks and maintain their safety.
