Russia and Ukraine Exchange Soldier Remains

Kyiv, Russia and Ukraine exchanged the remains of tens of soldiers of both sides, many of whom have fallen in the ongoing 21 month-long war.

The Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War (KSHPPV) said on Telegram today that under the supervision of the International Committee of the Red Cross and its organization, Russia handed over to the Ukrainian side the remains of 94 Ukrainian soldiers killed in the war, without revealing the number of Russian soldiers whose remains were handed over by Ukraine nor the location of the exchange.

Such swaps of war prisoners and soldier remains remain rare between both sides.

On February 24, 2022, Russia launched what it described as a special military operation in Ukraine, despite widespread international condemnation and the West's imposition of unprecedented economic sanctions on Moscow.
