Geneva: HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Office in Geneva, Dr. Hend bint Abdalrahman Al Muftah, participated in a meeting of the Support Group of the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) in Geneva.
According to Qatar News Agency, Her Excellency emphasized the State of Qatar's commitment to ensuring the success of the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction 2028. She highlighted the importance of this event, as it coincides with a period marked by increasingly complex global risks, including climate-related hazards and technological challenges, which necessitate enhanced disaster risk reduction efforts.
Her Excellency noted that the timing of the platform, just two years prior to the end of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction in 2030, offers a critical opportunity to assess progress, accelerate implementation, and strengthen global cooperation. She underscored Qatar's extensive experience in hosting major multilateral events and its ability to provide high-level logistical and technical support.
She affirmed Qatar's readiness to organize an event that aligns with the expectations of Member States and stakeholders, offering a safe and well-connected environment in Doha for a dynamic global platform. Furthermore, Dr. Al Muftah expressed Qatar's commitment to partnership and collaboration in preparation for the 2028 platform, working closely with UNDRR, Member States, and other partners to facilitate practical solutions and knowledge exchange aimed at reducing disaster risks and enhancing global resilience.
