Qatar’s Leadership in Gulf Sports Affirmed by Hosting GCC Games – Doha 2026

Doha: HE Secretary-General of the Qatar Olympic Committee and Vice Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Games, Jassim bin Rashid Al Buenain, announced that Doha's selection as the host city for the GCC Games - Doha 2026 highlights Qatar's ongoing leadership role in advancing Gulf sports and enhancing athletic cooperation among the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states.

According to Qatar News Agency, Al Buenain emphasized that the GCC Games - Doha 2026 will serve as a vital platform to unite Gulf athletes in an atmosphere marked by friendly competition and camaraderie. He further elaborated on the importance of the event in fortifying the bonds of brotherhood and communication among the GCC nations, underscoring the shared values of solidarity and unity that bring the region's people together and reflecting a collective commitment to fostering cooperation across multiple areas, especially in sports.

Al Buenain assured that the organizing committee, in collaboration with relevant authorities, is committed to delivering the best organizational and technical standards for the tournament. This effort aims to ensure the event meets the expectations of athletes and delegations while upholding the prestige of Gulf sports.

Highlighting the technical significance of the tournament, Al Buenain noted its role as a preparatory stage for Gulf athletes gearing up for major upcoming events, particularly the 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026 in Japan. He expressed that the GCC Games would provide athletes with an essential opportunity to evaluate their technical and physical preparedness in a competitive setting.

The vice chairman also pointed out that the GCC Games play a crucial role in regional sports development by facilitating the exchange of organizational and technical expertise and helping identify talent capable of representing Gulf sports on an international level.

Al Buenain concluded by affirming the readiness of the Qatari national teams for the fourth GCC Games - Doha 2026.
