Qatar’s Leadership at UN Highlights Commitment to Global Diplomacy and Palestinian Cause

New york: Qatari newspapers emphasized in their Tuesday editorials that global attention is turning to the address to be delivered today by HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani at the General Debate of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, where he is expected to outline Qatar’s principled positions and reaffirm the centrality of the Palestinian cause.

According to Qatar News Agency, the newspapers noted that HH the Amir’s impactful presence at this global platform reflects Qatar’s prominent standing on the international stage and its consistent foreign policy approach, founded on independence, active diplomacy, constructive mediation, support for dialogue, and the peaceful resolution of disputes. They also highlighted Qatar’s productive partnerships with the international community across political, economic, developmental, and humanitarian fields.

On another note, the newspapers congratulated the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia — leadership and people — on its 95th National Day, praising the remarkable achievements and ambitious vision that have placed the Kingdom on a path of growth and prosperity under the leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and HRH Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

In its editorial titled “Constants of Qatar’s Foreign Policy,” Al-Watan emphasized that HH the Amir’s speech at the opening of the General Debate will reaffirm the enduring principles of Qatar’s foreign policy and draw attention to the consequences of Israeli aggression, which has drawn widespread international condemnation. The paper noted that the address will carry several key messages, particularly on the Palestinian issue, underlining Qatar’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people and its tireless efforts to achieve a permanent ceasefire and put an end to the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza.

The editorial stressed that HH the Amir’s address at the UN carries additional weight as it demonstrates Qatar’s determination to ensure its voice is heard, while reaffirming its policy of rejecting injustice, promoting dialogue, and supporting peaceful solutions. It further highlighted Qatar’s trusted role as an international mediator, committed to international law and the UN Charter, in advancing peace and stability worldwide.

In an editorial by its Editor-in-Chief titled “Qatar Never Compromises on Sovereignty and National Dignity,” Al-Raya underscored the importance of the Amir’s participation in the UN General Assembly and his address at a time of sensitive regional and international developments. The paper affirmed that the speech will further reinforce Qatar’s positions and vision in the face of escalating Israeli violations in the region.

The editorial observed that Qatar’s diplomacy has always been defined by independence and principle. Since the early stages of its political development, Doha has shaped a distinctive diplomatic model grounded in defending rights, upholding sovereignty, and utilizing resources to advance national, regional, and global objectives. Qatar’s diplomacy, the paper noted, does not yield to pressure or external dictates, but asserts with determination that rights are never abandoned and sovereignty is safeguarded and defended.

The editorial further pointed out that Qatar, with its expanding presence on the international stage, is poised to consolidate its influence in key global arenas — from the UN headquarters in New York to leading international think tanks — actively contributing to the shaping of new frameworks for regional and global security. At the same time, Doha remains committed to advancing the consensus achieved at Arab and Islamic summits, while strengthening the GCC’s collective defense system to safeguard the security of its peoples and the stability of its states.

Al-Raya concluded that Qatar’s continued strong presence at the UN General Assembly reflects a strategy of proactive engagement and the effective use of soft power in the service of international peace and security. It reaffirmed that Qatar will remain steadfast in prioritizing core issues, foremost among them the Palestinian cause, sustainable development, and support for developing nations, all in line with its enduring commitment to international law and the principles of the United Nations.
