Qatar’s Diplomatic Efforts and Economic Expansion Highlighted in Local Editorials

Doha: Qatari newspapers have emphasized the recent diplomatic efforts led by HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani, who engaged in phone conversations with several foreign ministers and regional officials. The discussions focused on the importance of continued diplomatic coordination to reduce tensions, enhance regional security, and support peace consolidation efforts in the region.

According to Qatar News Agency, Al-Sharq newspaper highlighted that these dialogues affirm Qatar's commitment to defuse tensions and achieve a comprehensive peace agreement in the Middle East. The phone calls included discussions with leaders such as HH Minister of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia, HH Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the UAE, and HE Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkiye. The talks coincided with US President Donald Trump's directive to halt military actions in Iran, reflecting a shift towards diplomacy and adherence to previous understandings between Washington and Tehran.

Al-Sharq concluded that these interactions are part of ongoing regional coordination efforts to de-escalate tensions and maintain security and stability in the region. The discussions aim to ensure the freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz and promote lasting regional stability.

In a similar vein, The Peninsula newspaper emphasized that Qatar's recent diplomatic engagements underscore the importance of dialogue and coordination in maintaining peace in a fragile security landscape. The series of high-level telephone conversations were more than routine exchanges, representing a coordinated effort to prevent escalation amid ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Gulf and the wider Middle East. The Peninsula asserted that such diplomatic outreach is key to preserving regional stability.

On the economic front, Al-Raya newspaper focused on the launch of the Qatar Diamond Exchange, an initiative that aims to strengthen Qatar's position as a global trade hub. The project is seen as a significant step in advancing Qatar's economic diversification agenda, offering a platform for trading diamonds and gemstones. The initiative encompasses a comprehensive value chain, including secure storage, customs services, and auctions, designed to attract international companies and investments.

The newspaper noted that Qatar's strategic geographic location and advanced infrastructure make it a key player in the global diamond trade. The initiative is supported by Qatar's accession to the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme and legislation governing diamond trade, reinforcing confidence in the Qatari market. Al-Raya concluded that the project represents an investment in Qatar's future, leveraging its strategic location and regulatory capabilities to build a sustainable competitive advantage in the global economy.
