Qatar’s Commitment to Empowering Women and Sports Achievements Highlighted

Doha: In its editorial, Al-Sharq newspaper emphasized that the State of Qatar’s celebration of International Women’s Day coincided with the country’s notable achievements in supporting women. The State has provided women with opportunities and created an encouraging environment for them to thrive and contribute to building a society focused on education, knowledge, excellence, and innovation.

According to Qatar News Agency, the paper pointed out that, as described by HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Chairperson of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, women are the force that builds generations, drives progress, and shapes the future with resolve and inspiration. The paper further noted that the global celebration of this occasion this year under the theme “For ALL Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment,” is being realized on all levels in the State of Qatar.

This was particularly evident at the Web Summit Qatar 2025, as the world witnessed how female pioneers in the fields of business and innovation in technology are shaping the digital future. The summit saw widespread female participation, with women comprising 37% of the total attendees. Moreover, the number of women-led startups increased, making up 47% of the participating startups.

Al-Sharq concluded by saying that the State of Qatar is on the right path toward empowering women in institutions, the labor market, and at all levels, stressing that women hold an esteemed position in the country’s social, political, and economic transformations.

Additionally, English-language newspaper The Peninsula highlighted Qatar’s reputation as a leading global sports destination with the confirmation of dates for two major football tournaments later this year – the FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2025 and the FIFA U-17 World Cup Qatar 2025. These prestigious events will not only reaffirm Qatar’s commitment to football but also build on the country’s history of hosting international sporting extravaganzas.

The FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2025 will begin on Dec. 1 and culminate in the final on Dec. 18, coinciding with Qatar’s National Day. This marks the second time Qatar has hosted the competition, following the inaugural edition in 2021. The FIFA U-17 World Cup Qatar 2025 is another milestone for the country, taking place from Nov. 3 to 27, showcasing young football talent on the global stage.

The State of Qatar’s hosting of these events continues a legacy of prestigious tournaments that the country has successfully managed in recent years, The Peninsula concluded.
