Doha: Qatari newspapers highlighted in their editorials published Sunday the role the State of Qatar plays in conflict resolution, noting the Gaza ceasefire agreement, which came as a culmination of a series of successful mediations through which Qatar managed to defuse crises that could have led to extremely dangerous consequences.
According to Qatar News Agency, the newspapers also covered Qatar’s call on Saturday during the session of the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna, to intensify international efforts to bring all Israeli nuclear facilities under the safeguards of the IAEA and for Israel to join the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) as a non-nuclear state. This is especially significant given that the entire Middle East region, except for Israel, has become a party to the NPT and has effective safeguard agreements with the agency.
In its editorial, Al-Watan newspaper affirmed that Qatar has once again demonstrated its ability to play an effective role in conflict resolution. The Gaza ceasefire agreement came as a culmination of a series of successful mediations through which Qatar managed to defuse crises that could have led to extremely dangerous consequences. The newspaper referred to the statement by HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani, emphasizing that Qatar has faced many attacks due to its efforts. However, His Highness the Amir has always told him that if they can save even a single life, then all the efforts are worth it.
The newspaper concluded by saying that Qatar has succeeded every time it has mediated, but this success has not come without a price. There are always those who will go to great lengths to hinder it. As His Excellency clarified, Qatar faced a major attack during the past fifteen months amid the Gaza war, but it worked tirelessly to achieve this deal. HE pointed out that when the moment came to announce the achievement, celebrations filled the streets, both in Gaza and Israel.
For its part, Al-Raya newspaper said that Israel is a constant threat to the security and stability of the region, due to its war crimes against the Palestinians and its Arab neighbors, not to mention its possession of a nuclear weapons arsenal that is not subject to international oversight. The newspaper highlighted Qatar’s call on Saturday during the session of the IAEA Board of Governors in Vienna on the need to intensify international efforts to bring all Israeli nuclear facilities under the safeguards of the Agency and for Israel to join the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) as a non-nuclear state. This is particularly important as the entire Middle East, except for Israel, has become a party to the NPT and has effective safeguard agreements with the agency.
Al-Raya concluded by saying that despite all the massacres, atrocities, violations, and acts of genocide committed by Israel against the Palestinian people in Gaza and the West Bank, the international response remained timid. It was limited to statements urging Israel to comply with international law, which encouraged the criminal occupying government to persist in its aggressive policies.
