Qatar’s Commitment to Autism and Global Sporting Events Highlighted

Doha: In its editorial titled “Qatar: A Leader in Supporting and Empowering People with Autism and Their Families,” Al-Raya highlighted Qatar’s dedication to enhancing the lives of individuals with autism. The editorial underscored Qatar’s efforts in providing a secure environment through family support spaces, sensory workshops, and specialized programs for various age groups.

According to Qatar News Agency, Al-Raya emphasized the importance Qatar places on this issue through both national and international strategies. The Qatar Foundation’s 2025 ‘2035 strategy is aimed at improving early diagnosis, education, employment opportunities, healthcare, and innovation. The first national autism plan stands as a crucial element, ensuring comprehensive support for individuals with autism.

On a global scale, Qatar leads initiatives such as the Global Autism Alliance, introduced during a ministerial meeting at the 80th UN General Assembly session. This initiative seeks to coordinate and enhance global efforts for the inclusion of individuals with autism and their families, focusing on non-communicable diseases and mental health. Al-Raya also noted the launch of the Autism Parents Platform in Qatar, recognized internationally as a “community home for autism,” offering specialized services and support.

Meanwhile, Al-Arab praised Qatar’s healthcare advancements under the title “Healthcare Successes: A Pillar of Human Development.” The paper spotlighted the Ministry of Public Health’s achievements, securing Qatar’s health sector’s global standing. The National Health Strategy 2024-2030 aims to reduce non-communicable diseases and enhance mental health. Nationwide campaigns on diabetes, obesity, and heart health reflect a proactive approach to health challenges.

Furthermore, The Peninsula English daily celebrated Qatar’s selection to host the 2029 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship, marking a significant milestone in Middle Eastern sports history. The International Volleyball Federation confirmed Qatar’s host status, acknowledging its expertise in organizing international events, as demonstrated during the FIFA World Cup in 2022. This achievement adds to Qatar’s impressive record of hosting global tournaments, bolstering its reputation as a leading sports hub.
