Doha: In their editorials today, Qatari newspapers addressed the escalating tensions in the region following the Iranian attacks targeting Qatar, several other Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states, and other countries. They highlighted international condemnations of these attacks and underscored Qatari diplomatic efforts aimed at garnering international support and reaffirming the country's sovereignty.
According to Qatar News Agency, the newspapers emphasized the international condemnations issued by UN officials as well as the international community's stances, which deemed these attacks a clear violation of international law and a threat to regional security and stability. They also focused on Qatari diplomacy's efforts to convey the country's position to the world, reaffirm its rejection of any aggression against its territory, and call for de-escalation, a return to dialogue, and the prioritization of wisdom to preserve regional security and stability.
In its editorial titled 'The international community rejects Iranian escalation', Al Raya newspaper stated that, in light of the dangerous escalation witnessed in the region following the Iranian attacks targeting Qatar, several other GCC states, and other countries, international condemnations continued to pour in, rejecting these practices which constitute a clear violation of state sovereignty and a direct threat to the security and stability of the region.
Al Raya highlighted the statements of UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, who expressed his strong condemnation of the Iranian attacks, emphasizing that they represent a violation of the sovereignty of the GCC states and pose grave risks to the safety of civilians and exacerbate regional tensions.
The newspaper also emphasized the UN General Assembly President's firm rejection of these attacks, considering them a blatant violation of international law and an unjustified expansion of the conflict. Al Raya emphasized that these international supportive stances come at a time when the State of Qatar has intensified its diplomatic efforts in the UN Security Council. Qatar sent its fifth official identical message to the United Nations and the Security Council, clarifying the circumstances of the missile attack on its territory. The message stressed that this escalation constitutes a serious violation of national sovereignty and a threat to the security of the entire region.
The newspaper considered the strong international solidarity with the State of Qatar - expressed through UN and international positions rejecting the attacks - as a reflection of Qatar's prestigious international standing and the soundness of its political approach, which is based on promoting security and stability, respecting international law, and defending its national sovereignty and legitimate interests.
For its part, Al Sharq newspaper affirmed that from day one, Qatari diplomacy, under the guidance of its leadership, has been leading intensive efforts at all levels to garner support for the State of Qatar's position in confronting Iranian aggression. In its editorial, titled 'Qatar's message to the world', it added that HH the Amir, HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Their Excellencies the Ministers of the State have been receiving dozens of calls from countries around the world.
Within the context of these proactive efforts, Qatar's message to the world was unified, emphasizing its rejection of any aggression against Qatari territory under any pretext or justification, considering it a flagrant violation of its national sovereignty and inconsistent with the principles of good neighborliness. The message also highlighted Qatar's efforts to facilitate dialogue with Iran and its consistent commitment to distancing itself from regional conflicts.
