Qatari Newspapers Editorials

In their editorials on Sunday, Qatari newspapers covered several topics on both local and Arab fronts, most prominently the $7 million agreement signed by the Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) and United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) to provide critical support to Palestine Refugees in Syria.

On the Arab front, the newspapers condemned the brutal Israeli aggression on the southern suburbs of Beirut, noting that Israel has escalated the confrontation to unprecedented levels, crossing all red lines.

Locally, the newspapers highlighted the State of Qatar’s deep commitment to family welfare, recognizing its importance in building a strong and stable society, as families are the fundamental nucleus for community cohesion and prosperity, adding that the State worked to provide comprehensive support for families through programs and initiatives aimed at enhancing family stability and empowering its members.

In its editorial, Al-Raya noted that the State of Qatar c
ontinues to extend helping hand to the Palestinian people amidst the difficult circumstances they face. In line with this approach, QFFD signed a $7 million agreement with UNRWA to provide vital support to Palestinian refugees in Syria.

The newspaper stressed that the Palestinian cause is a top priority for Qatar, adding that Qatar has not spared any effort in standing in solidarity with the Palestinian people in their continuous quest for their legitimate rights, reminding everyone of the injustices faced by Palestinians due to the ongoing Israeli occupation and aggression for nearly a year. The Qatari support includes material, relief, and humanitarian assistance through numerous international agencies and organizations, with UNRWA being the most significant among them, the newspaper added.

Al-Raya concluded by pointing out that UNRWA is one of the oldest, largest, and most important UN agencies, as it provides them with necessary protection and support in the face of ongoing challenges, which will persis
t as long as the plight of Palestinian refugees continues.

Similarly, Al-Sharq said that Qatar’s continuous commitment to global humanitarian efforts and enhancing the role of the United Nations to achieve its goals is exemplified by the contribution agreement signed by QFFD, amounting to $10 million, with the United Nations Office of the High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States. This agreement, made on the sidelines of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly, aims to support the office in monitoring and implementing the Doha Programme of Action (DPoA) for the period 2023-2031, as part of Qatar’s pledge to provide $60 million announced during the Fifth United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDC5).

The editorial added that this agreement reflects Qatar’s ongoing commitment to supporting the Office of the High Representative and enhancing its capacity to tackle the challenges faced by the leas
t developed countries. It also highlights Qatars interest in empowering the worlds most vulnerable nations, strengthening their resilience, and creating a more just and sustainable world, the newspaper added, stressing that this support will be crucial in helping 1.1 billion people in 45 least developed countries achieve progress and prosperity, as noted by the Under Secretary-General and High Representative for the Least Developed Countries.

Al-Sharq pointed out Qatar’s commitment and leading role in providing essential support to Palestinian refugees worldwide, through the agreement signed yesterday by the QFFD with UNRWA, which aims to provide vital support for Palestinian refugees in Syria. This funding is intended to support basic services, including education, healthcare, and cash assistance for Palestinian refugees affected by the ongoing conflict in Syria.

Al-Sharq concluded by stressing that these two agreements reaffirm Qatar’s pivotal role in its exceptional partnership with the United Nations to
enhance global humanitarian efforts and provide sustainable support to communities and countries in need.
