Tangier: Qatar’s national shooters clinched three gold medals, one silver, and one bronze in the Trap event at the Arab Shotgun Championship, which wound up Saturday in Tangier, Morocco. Participating in the event were 60 athletes representing eight countries, namely Qatar, Bahrain, Egypt, the UAE, Kuwait, Lebanon, Morocco, and Oman.
According to Qatar News Agency, the five Trap medals came through Ray Bassil, who captured gold in Women’s Individual Trap, the trio of Ray Bassil, Maytha Al Binali, and Kholoud Al Khalaf, who were crowned champions in Women’s Team Trap, and the duo of Mohammed Al Rumaihi and Ray Bassil, who struck gold in the Mixed Team Trap. Meanwhile, Amina Al Abdullah earned silver in Women’s Individual Trap, and the trio of Rashed Hamed Al Athbah, Mohammed Al Rumaihi, and Angelo Scalzone clinched bronze in Men’s Trap Team.
Over the past few days, the national marksmen had already secured three medals, two gold and one silver, in the Skeet event. Rashed Saleh Al Athbah won gold in Men’s Individual Skeet, Hajar Ghulam Mohammed claimed gold in Women’s Individual Skeet, and the trio of Rashed Saleh Al Athbah, Mohammed Al Kuwari, and Abdulaziz Al Attiyah earned silver in Men’s Skeet Team.
With the championship wrapping up today, Qatar’s overall tally rose to eight medals, five gold, two silver, and one bronze, placing the nation first in the Arab medal table. The Qatari marksmen took a victory lap with their dominant showing, underscoring their supremacy at the championship.
Secretary-General of the Qatar Shooting and Archery Association, Jassim Shaheen Al Sulaiti, expressed his pride in the achievements of Qatar’s marksmen in the Skeet and Trap competitions, highlighting their total medal haul of eight, five gold, two silver, and one bronze. In press statements, Al Sulaiti affirmed that this milestone came as proof of the association’s relentless efforts to advance the marksmen’s performance and strengthen their chances to achieve outstanding results and hold the national flag aloft in multiple international engagements.
He pointed out that these results serve as a strong incentive for the team to be fully prepared for the ISSF World Championship Shotgun in Athens, Greece, scheduled to take place in three weeks.
