Doha: The Qatar Society of Engineers (QSE) has launched the "Engineers Without Borders" programme, marking the first initiative of its kind in Qatar, alongside the inauguration of its official website. Chairperson of the Board of Directors of QSE, Eng. Amna Mohammed Al Naama, emphasized that the programme aims to promote institutional voluntary work and utilize national engineering expertise for humanitarian and development projects both domestically and internationally.
According to Qatar News Agency, Eng. Khalid AbdulRahim Al Sayed, a Board Member of QSE and Director of the Engineers Without Borders programme, explained that the programme seeks to offer specialized engineering services to charitable, humanitarian, and societal institutions, thereby fostering a culture of voluntary work. Eng. Al Sayed noted that the programme aims to leverage engineering expertise to support humanitarian and charitable ventures, enhancing sustainable development through the involvement of specialists in various engineering fields.
The programme consists of two tracks: one allowing volunteer engineers to choose their preferred volunteering times, and another featuring recorded programs for selection. The launch event also included remarks from several partner entities, praised for their collaboration with QSE in empowering engineering talents and promoting voluntary work.
Abdulla Mohammed Al Hajri from the Ministry of Social Development and Family commended the programme's alignment with national aspirations and legal provisions, emphasizing its potential to enhance civil society's role. Rashed Touaim Al Marri from the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs highlighted the programme's contribution to empowering engineering competencies and supporting sustainable development.
Abdulaziz Jassim Hejji of Qatar Charity described the initiative as a pioneering effort to harness engineering expertise for societal benefit. He expressed hope that the programme would serve as a platform for advancing voluntary engineering efforts globally.
Hussein Aman Al Ali from the Qatar Red Crescent Society acknowledged the programme's integrated humanitarian vision and its alignment with Qatar National Vision 2030, underscoring its potential for a sustainable and realistic impact.
