The State of Qatar participated in the special session devoted to nominating the next Regional Director of the World Health Organization (WHO) for the Eastern Mediterranean held on Tuesday. During the session, Dr. Hanan Balkhy from Saudi Arabia was nominated as the WHO Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean.
HE Minister of Public Health, Dr. Hanan Mohammed Al Kuwari chaired Qatar's delegation in the session. The session comes within the 70th session of the WHO Regional Committee for the Eastern Mediterranean currently held in Cairo during the period Oct. 9-12.
HE Minister of Public Health, Dr. Hanan Mohammed Al Kuwari congratulated Dr Hanan Balkhy the new WHO Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean and wished her success in her new missions for the interest of WHO and countries of the region.
Her Excellency also thanked the current WHO Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean, Dr. Ahmed Al Mandhari, whose term will end next January, underscoring the critical role he has undertaken to optimize the health systems and implement WHOs priorities in the Eastern Mediterranean region.
The regional committee granted Dr. Ahmed Al Mandhari an emeritus status by nominating him an emeritus director of WHO for the Eastern Mediterranean region.
