Doha: The 11th session of the Supreme Strategic Committee between the State of Qatar and the Republic of Turkiye was convened, marking another significant step in the strengthening of bilateral ties. The meeting, held in Doha, was chaired by HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani and HE President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkiye, with the participation of ministers from both countries.
According to Qatar News Agency, the session underscored the deep historical bonds and the shared commitment to enhancing cooperation across various sectors. The committee praised the efforts of the foreign ministers from both nations in facilitating this meeting and preparing the groundwork for ongoing collaboration. The preparatory meetings held in October 2025, including one at the senior officials’ level, were acknowledged as instrumental in the success of this session.
The discussions covered a wide range of areas, including trade, finance, investment, and energy, with both sides eager to expand and diversify their economic relations. Notably, the entry into force of the Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA) was celebrated as a pivotal milestone, offering a comprehensive framework for enhancing trade exchanges and mutual investments.
Cultural, educational, and media collaborations were also on the agenda, with both countries expressing a desire to deepen ties in these fields. They agreed to activate cultural activities and expand educational exchanges, aiming to promote cultural harmony. In the field of media and communications, the activation of a Memorandum of Understanding was highlighted, focusing on digital transformation and technological innovation.
Health, youth, sports, labor, and defense were also discussed, with both sides showing readiness to strengthen ties in these areas through various programs and initiatives. The importance of joint efforts in public health, as well as labor and defense sectors, was emphasized, aiming at mutual benefits and regional stability.
The meeting also addressed environmental challenges and climate change, with both countries committing to sustainable practices and joint initiatives to reduce carbon emissions. The committee touched upon regional and international issues, expressing satisfaction with their high-level dialogue and cooperation on global matters, including mediation efforts in conflict zones and support for sustainable development in the least developed countries.
Qatar and Turkiye reaffirmed their commitment to ongoing cooperation in combating terrorism, enhancing regional security, and supporting mediation efforts in various global conflicts. They also emphasized the importance of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations in fostering greater cultural and religious understanding.
The session concluded with the decision to hold the 12th session of the Supreme Strategic Committee in Turkiye in 2026, further solidifying the strategic partnership between the two nations. President Erdogan expressed his gratitude for the hospitality extended by Qatar during their stay, reinforcing the strong ties between the two countries.
