Ramallah: The Palestinian Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs reported a sharp escalation in the suffering of Palestinian prisoners held in Gilad camp within Ofer Prison, amid continued daily raids and the imposition of harsh restrictive measures.
According to Qatar News Agency, the Commission revealed in a statement on Sunday that the camp houses between 100 and 120 prisoners distributed across 12 rooms, each accommodating around 16 detainees. The statement highlighted a severe shortage of clothing and hygiene supplies faced by the inmates.
The Commission further detailed that prisoners’ meals are often limited to bread and yogurt, while sleeping conditions remain extremely harsh. Additional punitive measures reportedly include solitary confinement, beatings, and the use of electric shocks, which the Commission stressed are blatant violations of humanitarian standards and the Geneva Conventions.
This period is marked as the bloodiest phase in the history of the Palestinian prisoners’ movement since 1967, with 318 detainees confirmed to have died in Israeli prisons since that year. This data, documented by prisoners’ organizations, underscores the rapidly deteriorating conditions of prisoners in Israeli occupation jails.
