New york: The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) welcomed the joint statement issued by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and France. The statement, released as they co-chaired the High-Level International Conference for the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution, was made at the United Nations headquarters in New York on Monday.
According to Qatar News Agency, the OIC also lauded the historic pledges and decisions made during the conference. These included the recognition of the State of Palestine by several countries, namely Australia, Belgium, Canada, Luxembourg, Malta, Portugal, Britain, Denmark, Andorra, Monaco, San Marino, and France.
The OIC reiterated its call to nations that have not yet recognized the State of Palestine, urging them to do so. The organization emphasized that such recognition represents a historic commitment to achieving justice and peace in accordance with international law and the vision of the two-state solution. This recognition is seen as support for the Palestinian people’s rights to self-determination, freedom, independence, and the establishment of their independent state.
The OIC urged the translation of these decisions into immediate and practical measures aimed at stopping genocide, ending occupation and colonial settlement, and ensuring accountability for all crimes committed by the Israeli occupation against the Palestinian people.
