Minister of Transport, Razzaq Muhibis Al-Saadawi, affirmed his respect for the decisions of the UN Security Council, denying his speech, which was reported by the media office in his latest statement, in which he spoke about correspondences related to the navigational channel in Khor Abdullah.
The minister said in a clarification: "The media office of the ministry dealt with the file in an irresponsible manner, and dealt with the indoor correspondences of the Ministry in an ambiguous manner."
Yesterday, Sunday, the Ministry of Transport revealed that it had made several correspondences with the concerned international authorities, through Iraqi diplomatic channels, to restore Iraq's sovereign rights in its maritime passages.
The Minister of Transport, Razzaq Muhibis Al-Saadawi, confirmed, in a statement reported by the media office of the ministry, that several measures had been taken to preserve Iraq's maritime borders and restore its sovereignty over the navigational channel in Khor Abdullah and the sea lanes in Khor al-Khafja and Khor al- Amiyah.
Al-Saadawi added, according to the media office: "At a time when Iraq seeks to be a hub for international transit through its ports overlooking the Gulf, and invests huge sums of money in the port infrastructure and the maritime transport sector, we find that the strategic sea lanes in Khor Abdullah, Khor Al-Khafja and Khor Al-Amiyah, in the event of a continuous threat and abuse from the regional neighboring countries.
He continued, that the ministry addressed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to complete the procedures for sending the map of Iraqi maritime areas to the Council of Ministers in order to vote on it.
