Malaysia Strongly Condemns Israeli Airstrikes on Syria, Lebanon

Doha: Malaysia strongly condemned the Israeli airstrikes on Syrian territories, as well as on the Bekaa Valley in Lebanon, stressing that these attacks constitute a flagrant violation of the sovereignty of both Syria and Lebanon.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that these attacks violate international humanitarian law, international human rights law, and the United Nations Charter. The Ministry called on the international community to reject what it described as acts of terrorism committed by Israel against other countries, noting that these actions threaten regional and international peace and security.

The Ministry urged the United Nations Security Council to fulfill its responsibilities under the UN Charter and take action to halt the cycle of violence, thereby contributing to peace and stability in the region.

In line with this, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim emphasized in a Facebook post that the recent Israeli airstrike on Damascus represents a clear breach of international law and the 1974 Separation of Forces Agreement between Israel and Syria. He affirmed Malaysia’s support for the Syrian people and called for an immediate cessation of these violations, urging respect for the principles of humanity and the rule of law.

Israeli warplanes launched airstrikes on the Syrian capital, Damascus, targeting the Ministry of Defense building and sites near the presidential palace last Wednesday. This action coincided with military operations in As-Suwayda, leading to deaths, injuries, and material damage to public and private property.

Furthermore, Israeli airstrikes on the Wadi Fara area in northern Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley last Tuesday resulted in the death of 12 people, including displaced Syrians, and injured eight others, following an attack on a camp in the area.
