Jordanian King, Palestinian President Talk Relief Aid Delivery to Gaza Strip

King Abdullah II of Jordan discussed Thursday with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Amman ways to provide medical and relief humanitarian aid, provide water and electricity, and open urgent humanitarian corridors in the Gaza Strip.

During the meeting, King Abdullah II affirmed Jordan's support for the Palestinian people, stressing that his country will spare no effort to stand by them and provide and deliver urgent humanitarian and medical aid to the Gaza Strip.

He also stressed Jordan's firm position towards the Palestinian cause and the just and legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, stressing the continued protection and care of the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem under the Hashemite custodianship over them.

He reiterated that the region would not enjoy security and stability without a just and comprehensive peace on the basis of the two-state solution, which guarantees the establishment of an independent, sovereign Palestinian state on the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The Palestinian President called for an immediate halt to the comprehensive Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

Abbas warned of the danger of the only power plant in the Gaza Strip stopping working due to running out of fuel, which portends a real disaster for all health and humanitarian services.

He stressed the need to move to political action to end the occupation and achieve peace, stressing the rejection of practices related to killing or abusing civilians, calling for the release of civilians and prisoners, and emphasizing the need to stop settler terrorism against the Palestinian people in Palestinian cities, villages and camps in the West Bank, and to stop extremist raids of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, causing the situation to escalate.

He reiterated the importance of obligating Israel to respect the historical and legal status in Al-Quds Al-Sharif.
