Al rafid: The Jerusalem Governorate has announced that the holy city has witnessed the martyrdom of 144 Palestinians and the arrest of 11,555 others over the past five years, in addition to 1,732 demolition and land-clearing operations carried out by the Israeli occupation.
According to Qatar News Agency, the report issued by the Governorate on Thursday revealed the reality of Israeli policies based on repression, displacement, killing, and settlement expansion, which have targeted people, places, and holy sites. It indicated that these crimes constitute a comprehensive system of systematic violations against the Palestinian people in occupied Jerusalem.
The report also noted that the period between 2021 and 2025 witnessed a significant escalation in the policy of withholding the bodies of Jerusalemite martyrs, which the occupation uses as a tool of deterrence and collective punishment. It also said that the number of Jerusalemite martyrs whose bodies were being held by Israel reached 23 by the end of 2022, before rising to 35 by the end of 2023, and then to 45 by the end of 2024.
The report documented the injury of 6,528 Jerusalemite citizens during the past five years as a result of attacks by Israeli occupation forces and settlers. These injuries included serious wounds and varying degrees of severity, affecting children, students, workers, and drivers. The report highlighted that, in 2025 alone, 331 Jerusalemite citizens sustained direct injuries from live and rubber-coated bullets, severe beatings, tear gas inhalation, and physical assaults perpetrated by settlers.
The report also highlighted the alarming escalation in sentences and rulings issued by Israeli occupation courts, including 1,491 actual prison sentences over five years, of which 755 were administrative detention orders and 821 house arrest orders, most of them against children and minors. Furthermore, it documented 151 settlement projects submitted for discussion, 130 officially approved projects, and 51 projects put out to tender, collectively encompassing more than 72,000 settlement units over five years.
The report concluded that these ongoing violations constitute a fully-fledged settlement project aimed not only at military control but also at displacing the Palestinian population, Judaizing the cultural and religious landscape of the Holy City, and imposing a new reality that contravenes international law and UN resolutions.
