Seoul: Hyundai Motor Co. and Kia Corp. have achieved a significant milestone by selling more than 100,000 electric vehicles (EVs) in Europe during the first half of 2026, as the South Korean automakers intensify their efforts to bolster their market presence in the region, the companies announced on Sunday.
According to Qatar News Agency, a total of 131,032 EVs were sold by Hyundai and Kia in Europe over the first six months of the year, marking a substantial increase of 41.8 percent compared to the 92,365 units sold in the previous half. This uptick in sales signals a robust demand for the automakers' EV offerings in the European market.
With the current pace of sales, Hyundai and Kia project that their annual EV sales in Europe could exceed 200,000 units by the end of the year, a milestone they have not achieved since entering the European EV market in 2014. This prospective achievement underscores the increasing acceptance and demand for their EVs among European consumers.
Hyundai and Kia first reached the 100,000 mark in annual EV sales in Europe in 2021, and their combined sales have shown a consistent upward trend, culminating in 183,912 units sold in 2025. As of May, their cumulative EV sales in Europe have surpassed the 1 million unit mark, highlighting their successful expansion and adaptation in the competitive European EV market.
