Doha: A global study by the World Weather Attribution initiative and British researchers found that human-induced climate change was the main cause of the record heatwave across Western Europe. According to Qatar News Agency, the study indicated that climate change has made the current heatwave approximately 100 times more likely to occur than it would have been two decades ago. The study emphasized that such extreme weather conditions would not have taken place in their current form without the influence of human-caused emissions. The research highlighted that around 45 percent of over 800 European cities have already recorded, or are expected to record, extreme heat stress by late June. This alarming statistic underscores the widespread impact of the heatwave across the continent. Climate experts are raising concerns that the continuation of greenhouse gas emissions will lead to more frequent extreme heat events. This trend is expected to place additional strain on healthcare and energy systems, emphasiz ing the urgent need to reduce emissions and accelerate the transition to clean energy sources.
