Arab League Calls for Global Participation in New York Peace Conference to Address Israeli-Palestinian Conflict

Cairo: The Arab League called on all nations to join efforts to implement the two-state solution as the only viable path to achieving peace, security, and stability in the region.

According to Qatar News Agency, it urged nations that have yet to recognize the State of Palestine to take this step in line with their declared commitment to the two-state formula. The League also called for active participation in the upcoming International Peace Conference, slated to take place in June in New York, viewing it as a crucial lever for regional peace and stability.

In a statement marking the 58th anniversary of the day of the setback, the League affirmed that it is critically imperative to implement the United Nations General Assembly resolutions alongside the Security Council resolutions with the objective of maintaining international security and peace, foremost among them resolutions 242 of 1967 and 338 of 1973, as well as the relevant resolutions and the International Court of Justice (ICJ) rulings.

The statement called upon the Arab nations to compel the Israeli occupation authorities to cease the war of annihilation and halt the humanitarian tragedy of the Palestinian people through immediately opening all crossings, ensuring the access of life-saving humanitarian aid that meets the Gazans’ needs, and providing both political and financial backing to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), along with other UN-led activities in the occupied Palestinian territory.

In addition, the League urged the world nations to take all essential measures to end the unlawful Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories, enable the Palestinian people to practice their right to self-determination, and embody their sovereign and independent statehood with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on the international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.

The far-right Israeli government continues to impose its control over the Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem, and continues its persistent defiance and violation of international law and international humanitarian law through the expansion of illegal settlements in the occupied West Bank, the demolition of homes, the expropriation of Palestinian land, and the desecration of Christian and Islamic holy sites, the statement continued.

The statement stressed that Israel keeps unleashing extremist settlers to assault Palestinian civilians, scrawl racist slogans, and storm Al-Aqsa Mosque, fully guarded and condoned by the Israeli occupying army.

The League also noted the destruction of Palestinian camps and the displacement of their residents as part of an ethnic cleansing policy, in addition to tightening the siege on the Palestinian Authority through various kinds of blockade, including the financial blockade and the overt seizure of its resources and rightful financial entitlements.
