/22 /people were injured in the earthquake that struck Malatya, southern Turkey

The Turkish Minister of Interior, Ali Yerli Kaya, announced that 22 people were injured in the earthquake that struck Malatya, southern Turkey, last night.

The Turkish Minister of Interior stated in a post on his account on a social networking site, that the Turkish teams continued field survey efforts in the areas hit by the earthquake, which had a magnitude of 5.3, and its center was in Yesilyurt district in Malatya.

Yerli Kaya indicated that according to preliminary information, the earthquake caused the collapse of an abandoned building and damaged two other buildings.

He said: "So far, there have been no casualties, only 22 people have been injured as a result of jumping from high places due to fear and panic."

An earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale struck late last night in the Yesilyurt area of Malatya state in southern Turkey.

It is noteworthy that the state of Malatya is among the regions severely affected by the earthquake that struck southern Turkey on the sixth of last February, claiming the lives of 2,300 people, according to official statistics, among the total number of earthquake victims, which amounted to more than 50,000 dead.
