Prime Minister Iraq Mohammed Shiaa Al Sudani stressed the importance of joint Arab action to contain differences, calling on the Arab League to develop its approaches towards building an economic bloc.

Addressing the 32nd regular session of the Arab League Council at the summit level, held in Jeddah, Al Sudani said that many countries have been able to build successful economic blocs and they do not have common elements among their members, unlike Arab countries which share language and culture.

In this respect, Al Sudani pointed that his country will be hosting several conferences to lay the foundation stone for such cooperation, such as the (Baghdad 2023) conference for economic integration and regional stability.

On the situation in Sudan and other Arab countries, he said that it is a must to spare Sudan from slipping into dissension and internal strife. He also welcomed the initiatives calling for an end to the fighting there, wishing success for the efforts to achieve stability in Libya.

The Iraqi Prime Minister expressed optimism about the continuation of attempts to achieve peace in Yemen, reiterating standing with Lebanon to overcome its political and economic conditions. He stressed Iraq’s firm and principled position regarding the Palestinian right to land and sovereignty, and the establishment of a Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.

Al-Sudani pointed out that the issue of climate change and water scarcity requires joint action in the light of international laws and norms to find radical solutions that mitigate its negative effects. He also touched on the issue of drugs, and other similar attempts to influence cultural values saying that such a scourge requires a decisive position based on solidarity and cooperation to combat it.
