Doha: At least 13 people have died following a massive rainstorm that hit the coastal city of Baha Blanca in southwestern Argentina. Local authorities confirmed that 11 victims have been identified, while search efforts continue for two young girls swept away by the floods, according to National Security Minister Patricia Bullrich, who said that Baha Blanca was “destroyed.” As rescue operations remain ongoing, municipal authorities have warned that the death toll may rise further due to the scale of the disaster, which has caused unprecedented flooding.
According to Qatar News Agency, the downpour dumped more than 400 millimeters of rain in the area in just eight hours, practically what Baha Blanca gets in an entire year. Authorities have also reported the evacuation of about 850 people, and efforts continue to address the fallout from the storm, the biggest since 1930.
