Winners of Katara’s 2025 Short Story Competition Announced

Doha: The Cultural Village Foundation (Katara) has announced the winners of its 2025 short story competition, which this year focused on the theme of brotherhood. Yemeni writer Ahmed Al Saadi secured first place, followed by Iraqi writer Ali Taha Hajara in second place, and Libyan writer Moataz bin Humaid in third.

According to Qatar News Agency, Katara launched this edition of the competition during the holy month of Ramadan, continuing its annual tradition of organizing literary contests to support Arab creativity and promote interest in the art of the short story. The first-place winner is receiving a prize of QAR 15,000, the second-place winner QAR 12,000, and the third-place winner QAR 10,000.

The 2025 edition attracted nearly 1,500 participants from 32 countries, including 19 Arab nations, according to Katara. The competition was open to writers of all ages and both genders, with each participant allowed to submit only one story. The winning entries will be published by Katara Publishing House.
