The US State Department called on all parties to resolve differences in Kirkuk “through dialogue and activating Article 140 of the Iraqi constitution,” stressing at the time that it is in constant contact with Erbil and Baghdad to resolve disputes related to budget and salaries.

“We are closely following the tensions in Kirkuk, and we offer our condolences and sympathy to the families of the dead,” said Deputy Spokesman for the US State Department, Vedant Patel, during a press conference today, Tuesday, about the events in Kirkuk.

He added, “The states call on all parties to resolve their differences through dialogue and activate Article 140 of the constitution.”

In response to another question about the problems between Erbil and Baghdad regarding the budget, salaries, and the non-resumption of exporting Kurdistan region’s oil, Vedant Patil said: “We are in constant contact with our partners in Baghdad and Erbil.”
