The US State Department on Friday said that the two parties to the conflict in Sudan are ready to discuss a permanent ceasefire that would lead to ending the current crisis.
Deputy Spokesman for the US State Department Vedant Patel said in remarks that the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces expressed, in contacts with US officials, their readiness to discuss a permanent ceasefire agreement, in order to spare the country and its people more tragedies and losses.
He added that violations of the ceasefire agreement between the two sides had been recorded over the past hours, but stressed that this matter does not mean the collapse of the current armistice, which extends for 72 hours, as of last night.
Relatedly, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that his country is working to extend the ceasefire in Sudan, noting that the recent armistice reduced violence and helped complete air evacuations.
On Thursday, the Sudanese Armed Forces agreed to a three-day extension of the 72-hour armistice, which was scheduled to end at midnight Thursday.
