US President Says Strait of Hormuz will Open Soon

Doha: US President Donald Trump confirmed that the Strait of Hormuz will be reopened soon, whether Iran cooperates or not, stressing that his top priority in the peace talks in Islamabad is to ensure that Tehran does not acquire a nuclear weapon.

According to Qatar News Agency, Trump remarked that the strait would be opened with Iran's cooperation or without it, expressing his belief that the resolution would occur quickly. He emphasized that if the situation does not improve naturally, Washington is prepared to take necessary actions to resolve the matter unilaterally.

When questioned about his idea of a favorable agreement with Iran, the US president stated that it would entail Iran not possessing nuclear weapons, noting that this aspect constitutes 99% of the agreement's importance.

In an effort to deescalate the situation, Trump has dispatched Vice President JD Vance to Pakistan to engage in negotiations with senior Iranian officials. This diplomatic effort follows the announcement of a two-week ceasefire aimed at alleviating tensions amidst a global energy crisis, aggravated by the halt in navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital passage for one-fifth of the world's crude oil supply.
