US President Prefers Reaching Agreement with Iran on Nuclear Program

Washington: US President Donald Trump said today that he wanted to avoid entering into a conflict with Iran and called on Tehran to approach nuclear negotiations with greater seriousness. Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump remarked that Israel might strike Iran but clarified that he wouldn’t go so far as to say such an action is imminent. He emphasized his desire to reach a deal with Iran, saying the two sides are close and that he prefers a peaceful, diplomatic path forward. He maintained however that a major confrontation remains a possibility if things go wrong.

According to Qatar News Agency, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian announced that Iran will continue enriching uranium and is planning to build a new enrichment facility. His statement came in response to a resolution passed by the International Atomic Energy Agency’s Board of Governors, which criticized Iran’s nuclear activities. Pezeshkian accused Western countries of backing the resolution against Iran.

Separately, Oman announced today that it will host the sixth round of talks between Iran and the United States on Iran’s nuclear program this coming Sunday. The talks are part of ongoing diplomatic efforts to bring both sides closer to an agreement.
