UN Secretary-General Warns of Collapsing Foundations of Peace and Progress

New york: Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, stated at the start of the high-level General Debate of the UN General Assembly’s 80th session that the foundations of peace and progress are collapsing under the weight of impunity.

According to Qatar News Agency, Guterres emphasized the urgent need to address these challenges during his opening remarks. He highlighted the growing concerns over the lack of accountability on the global stage, which he believes is undermining efforts toward achieving sustainable peace and development. The Secretary-General called on member states to reinforce their commitments to international laws and cooperative frameworks in order to rebuild these foundations.

Guterres urged world leaders to take concrete actions and collaborate on solutions that prioritize justice and transparency. He stressed the importance of multilateralism and the role of the United Nations in facilitating dialogue and cooperation. The address set a somber tone for the discussions expected to take place during the assembly, as nations confront complex global issues.
