London: Data released Friday by the UK's Office for National Statistics (ONS) shows a significant rise in employment within environmentally friendly industries, commonly referred to as green industries, over the past decade.
According to Qatar News Agency, the total number of full-time green jobs in the United Kingdom reached approximately 690,900 in 2023, compared to 513,300 in 2015, an increase of around 177,600 jobs, representing a growth rate of 34.6 percent.
The report highlighted that three key sectors accounted for more than one-third of these jobs in 2023: waste management, energy-efficient product manufacturing, and the renewable energy sector.
The ONS defines green jobs as any employment that contributes to environmental protection or restoration, including activities related to mitigating or adapting to climate change.
