San jose: Two earthquakes exceeding 5 magnitude on the Richter scale struck Costa Rica and Ecuador on Wednesday. The US Geological Survey reported that a 5.9-magnitude earthquake hit southwestern Costa Rica at a depth of 31 km.
According to Qatar News Agency, a 5.5-magnitude earthquake was recorded in southwestern Ecuador shortly before the Costa Rica quake, occurring at a depth of 73.6 km. Fortunately, no injuries or material damage have been reported from either of the seismic events.
Costa Rica and Ecuador frequently experience earthquakes and tremors due to their geographical locations, which are prone to seismic activity.
