Manila: At least two people were killed today as Typhoon Vong Wong made landfall on the eastern coast of the Philippines, just days after the devastating Typhoon Kalmaegi struck.
According to Qatar News Agency, the weather bureau predicted strong winds and heavy rain across large parts of the Philippines, while authorities evacuated more than one million people. The typhoon approached from the east, packing winds of 185 to 230 kilometers per hour.
Schools and government offices will remain closed tomorrow in many parts of the country, including the capital, Manila, and nearly 300 flights have been canceled, according to Philippine authorities.
Typhoon Vong Wong made landfall less than a week after Typhoon Kalmaegi, which killed 224 people, according to the latest government figures, and caused widespread destruction.
