Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan expected the European Union (EU) to demonstrate the necessary will and act more courageously to advance bilateral relations.
During a joint press conference on Wednesday with EU Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations Oliver Varhelyi, Hakan said that nothing has changed and that there remains a strong political will for Turkiye's EU membership.
For his part, Varhelyi said that new opportunities in relations emerged following the major Turkish elections in May, adding that he was quick to come to see how both sides could live up to their friendship, alliance, and partnership.
The EU Commissioner highlighted a strong political and economic commitment, emphasizing the importance of EU-Turkiye relations to the bloc.
For decades, Ankara has been seeking to join the EU due to the great economic, commercial, political, and security returns this would bring to Turkiye.
